Understanding Wholefoods vs Processed Foods – The “Wholefood Spectrum”

Welcome back to Coffee with Kim!

In this weeks episodes, I’m going to help clear some confusion around processed food vs wholefoods.

I’ll be covering:

  1. The definition of “wholefood” and how a wholefood diet impacts our weight and health.
  2. The different types of Food Processing. How not all processing is equal in the way in increases or decreases the health of a food.
  3. The “Wholefood Spectrum” – How to adopt a balanced approach to eating wholefoods so that it feels sustainable long term

Some Key take-homes from this episode:
• Eating a more wholefood way of eating helps your body do it’s job properly due to less interference with physiological processes such as our immune system, blood glucose control, and appetite regulation.

• Not all processing is unhealthy. It depends on whether the processing makes the food more nourishing or less nourishing, and whether it makes the food more or less recognizable, or easier vs harder to digest.

• You don’t have to make everything from scratch, or avoid all packaged food in order to adopt a wholefood way of eating. Using the “wholefood spectrum” and 80/20 approach, might be more sustainable, than an “all or nothing” black and white approach.

xx Kim
